Kalua Pig and Cabbage Plate

This traditional Hawaiian dish features tender shredded pork cooked in a smoky underground oven, served with sautéed cabbage for a hearty and flavorful plate.

Ingredients

  • 1headgreen cabbage
  • 2tspsea salt (divided)
  • 3lbspork butt or shoulder (boneless)
  • black pepper
  • 1tbspliquid smoke

Instructions

    Rub the pork with 1 tbsp of liquid smoke and 1 tsp of sea salt. Place it in a slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours or until tender and easily shredded.

    Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Season with the remaining 1 tsp of sea salt.

    Slice the cabbage thinly. In a large pan, sauté the cabbage with a bit of oil until softened, season with black pepper.

    Serve the shredded Kalua pig on a plate with the sautéed cabbage. Enjoy your traditional Hawaiian meal!
